Our history
In 1819 the Meyer-Lüters company began as a straw processing company with the production of straw mesh for the production of straw hats and straw mats. Straw netting has been bought in from Asia since the middle of the 19th century. At that time, the company made fashion history. The fashionable and high-quality straw hats from Northern Germany were prize-awarded in Paris and Vienna. In 1910 the export quota of straw hats from Twistringen was already around 50% of the sales volume. At the end of the 19th century straw sleeves were added to the range to protect bottles during transport.

In the middle of the 20th century, straw mats found their way into garden centers. Natural screening mats for privacy were included in the range from the 1960s. The retail trade for household goods and hardware was discovered as a target group and supplied with a variety of garden and leisure items.
In 1970 the DIY trade started in Europe and created a new target group for the company. Since then, the range has been offered at garden centers and DIY retailers under the VIDEX brand.
